Indian Whistlers' Association, Chennai Chapter conducted
INDIA'S 1ST WHISTLING COMPETITION, in Chennai for Whistlers of Tamil Nadu only.Out of 50 members of the association in Chennai, 24 people registered for 4 Categories out of which 21 whistlers turned up to compete, including 8 newcomers whom we had never met/heard b4. This competition was attended by the Founder Rigved Deshpandey and member Chitan Bhide who came all the way from Pune only for this. They were extremely happy with the performances of whistlers. The guests(only relatives of the participants) and judges also praised the performances very much. The judges were experts in the field of music, though not whistlers themselves and the judging criteria was as per International standards as suggested by Linda Hamilton-owner of Orawhistle, Canada.

Mr. Shyamsunder (father of Niveditha-famous Carnatic classical whistler & a Mrudangam expert)
Mrs.Nikila Shyamsunder (Vocalist,Veena Player & mother of Niveditha)
Mr. Ramana (Flutist)
English and Hindi category:
Mrs.Kavita Patel (Singer)
Mr. Sajan Shenoy (Pianica expert)
Mr. Hitesh Shelt(Dholak player)

along with assistants to compile the scores etc.
Mrs.Vibha Badani(mother of cricketer Hemang Badani) and Mr. Harshit Tarkas

Dear whistlers,
The First whistling competition was held at CHENNAI on
22 07 07 in a very grand manner. We entertained ourselves as well as
the audience in such a manner that no one including our founder
President Sh. Rigved, and our founder member Sh.Chetan could come out
from ringing sounds of Chennai whistlers. Entire credit goes to the
perfectionist amongst us, our beloved JAGAT UNCLE. The way he
organised show was tremendous and the Chennai chapter is most
fortunate to have such a volunteer and leader.

The event has brought best talents to compete and
perform this art in a beautiful way. We overwhelmed by the presence of
both Rigved and Chetan and by hearing their performences. We all
expect such types of events in every zone and eagerly awaitng for
First ever National Whistling Competition.
